Why Mando Is Looking For Other Mandalorians In Season 2 (Instead Of Jedi)

Here’s why Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) is looking for other Mandalorians instead of Jedi in The Mandalorian season 2. Lucasfilm is hyping up the nearing release of new episodes of the Star Wars live-action series by dropping its second trailer. Clocking in at a minute, the clip features a few pieces of new footage from The Mandalorian season 2, including the revelation that the titular character is looking for more Mandalorians to help him reunite Baby Yoda with its people. This is an intriguing move since he could go straight to the Jedi to accomplish his new mission.

At the end of The Mandalorian season 1, Din officially became a clan of two with The Child thanks to the Armorer (Emily Swallow). In conjunction with that, the lone-gunslinger was also tasked to be the caretaker of the mysterious infant until he’s reunited with his people, whom she called the “order of sorcerers” – referring to the Jedi. This becomes Din’s solitary mission come season 2, although it’s not going to be as easy as it seems with Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and even the New Republic on their tails.

The trailer reveals that Din’s plan of action is to “locate other Mandalorians” because they can guide him. Interestingly, the video makes it look like he’s explaining this to Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and Cara Dune (Gina Carano) which doesn’t make sense since both were with him when the Armorer laid out his mission back in The Mandalorian season 1 finale. Aside from this, however, it’s also puzzling why Din would seek out Mandalorians to return Baby Yoda to the Jedi since he was previously informed that they have an ugly past. That said, looking at the state of the galaxy and his current connections, this move actually makes the most sense for him for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, at this point in the Star Wars galaxy, not much is known about the Jedi. For people like Din and other characters in The Mandalorian who weren’t privy to the events of the Skywalker saga, the Jedi are almost like mythical creatures – even the Armorer, who has some knowledge about them, doesn’t seem to know anything more than what she told Mando. Given this, Din is seeking out other Mandalorians who might have a better idea about where he can find the Jedi. Secondly, since Mando himself barely knows anything about the Jedi, it’s possible that he’s also being cautious about the possibility of simply handing Baby Yoda to them. Learning more about them first through his people would be a smarter way of going about with things rather than seeking them straightaway without having an idea of what to expect.

It’s worth noting that at this time, Sabine (a Mandalorian) and Ahsoka Tano (a previous member of the Jedi Order) are supposedly still looking for the missing Ezra Bridger (Jedi Padawan). At least the first two of those characters are supposedly appearing in The Mandalorian season 2, as well as Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Bo-Katan Kyrze (Katee Sackhoff), so it’s possible that Din’s quest to find his fellow Mandalorian results in his encounter with them. Among all those players, Ahsoka’s involvement would be the most important since she can shed a light on The Child and his connection to Jedi Grandmaster Yoda, but it’s through the Mandalorians he can find the Jedi.
