Tiger King TikTok Drag Queen Musical Marks Show’s 1 Year Anniversary

Netflix has announced a TikTok drag queen musical based on its hit documentary series, Tiger King. A look at the seamy underbelly of the big cat business in the U.S., Tiger King quickly ignited the internet upon its arrival in the early days of the pandemic. Fans and detractors alike buzzed over the show’s controversial subject matter, bizarre plot twists, and larger-than-life characters, including the infamous “Tiger King” himself, Joe Exotic.

Netflix has now announced The Tiger Queens: The Tiger King Musical LIVE on the one-year anniversary of Tiger King‘s debut, March 20, 2020. The Tiger Queens stars RuPaul’s Drag Race veterans, Willam as Joe Exotic, Kim Chi as Carole Baskin, and Heidi N Closet as “The Tiger.” Though little additional information is available as of this writing, the musical will stream live from Netflix’s TikTok account on Sunday, March 28. Check out the announcement below:

The news is the latest turn in season one of Tiger King‘s busy afterlife. Beyond the upcoming second season of the documentary series, several scripted projects are set to expand the Tiger-verse, including a Kate McKinnon-led series at NBC. As for the primary human subjects of Tiger King, Joe Exotic continues to serve his 22-year prison sentence for 17 counts of animal abuse, despite continued attempts to negotiate a pardon. Meanwhile, Big Cat Rescue founder and CEO, Carole Baskin, who criticized the “salacious and sensational” program upon its release, appeared on last season of Dancing with the Stars and now enjoys a lucrative side-hustle on Cameo. No matter what happens to the stars of Tiger King, cool cats and kittens everywhere can rest easy knowing that there’s plenty of big cat-content to come.
