Strictly Come Dancing ‘sign up England rugby star Ugo Monye’ for 2021 series

Rugby Union star Ugo Monye has reportedly been signed up to appear on this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing, it has been claimed.

The ex-England winger, 38, is said to be trying his hand at the tango, the waltz and the foxtrot when the show returns this autumn.

His pal is Strictly finalist Jamie Laing and is it claimed he encouraged him to take part.

A source told The Sun : “Ugo can’t wait to get out on the dancefloor and show off his moves.

“He’s not known for his dancing, but he isn’t afraid of a challenge.

“Ugo became friendly with Jamie when they worked on a travel show together in 2019 and after seeing how much he loved the experience, Ugo jumped at the chance.

They went on to say “Ugo is very much a rising star at the BBC”, adding “he is a captain on the revamped Question Of Sport” and “getting a turn on Strictly will help boost his profile even further”.

They added “Strictly bosses think he is a great signing and, who knows, maybe he’ll be as good at the waltz as he was on the wing”.

The former Harlequins regular joins other rugby alumni to feature on the show including Kenny Logan, 49 and Matt Dawson, 48.

BBC declined to comment about Ugo being signed up the show.

Last year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing, was won by comedian Bill Bailey, 56, and Oti Mabuse, 30.

Single Anna Richardson is said to be desperate to get the Strictly Come Dancing call – and wants someone good looking to help take her mind off things.

The 50-year-old is ready for Strictly and is expected to sign up for the BBC show, which gets underway next month.

Having turned down I’m A Celebrity and Dancing On Ice, she clearly has her heart set on Glitterball.

She wants someone easy on the eye to work with, if she does get the chance.

Anna said “being paired with somebody like Gorka (Marquez) would be amazing”, adding ‘she wanted someone she can have a really good laugh with and who is handsome’.
