Sebastian Stan, Lily James Cast As Tommy Lee & Pam Anderson In Hulu Show

Sebastian Stan and Lily James are set to star in a Hulu limited series about real life whirlwind couple Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, titled Pam & Tommy. Best known for playing Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stan has appeared in a number of notable films over the years, including awards darlings The Martian and I, Tonya. Most recently, he appeared in the star-studded Netflix drama The Devil All the Time, and he’ll next be seen slipping on Bucky’s metal arm once again for Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

James’ most recent onscreen credit is also a Netflix film, though hers was the remake of Daphne du Murier’s Rebecca. Beyond that, James is best known for her role as the title character in Disney’s live-action Cinderella, ABBA musical Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and her turn on Downton Abbey. She’ll next be seen in the movie The Dig and the miniseries What’s Love Got to Do with It?, which she recently signed on for. This new project will mark her first television role since the 2016 miniseries War & Peace.

Per Deadline, James and Stan will play the lead couple in the currently-titled Pam & Tommy. The Hulu event series will track the tumultuous relationship between Baywatch star Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, which saw the two get married after 96 hours of knowing each other and weathered a sex scandal when a private tape was leaked to the public. Seth Rogen has also signed on to play the man who obtained the sex tape, and Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) is on hand to direct. Rob Siegel will write the series.

Rogen will also produce Pam & Tommy alongside his Point Grey partner Evan Goldberg. Dylan Sellers at Limelight and Sue Naegle and Megan Ellison at Annapurna round out the rest of the producers. Pam & Tommy is aiming for a spring production start, which could lead to it nabbing a late 2021 or early 2022 release. This is also provided the coronavirus pandemic doesn’t disrupt their plans, as it has for many productions this year.

Hulu has found great success when it comes to miniseries this year, with projects like Little Fires Everywhere and Normal People earning critical praise. Pam & Tommy could easily capture that same attention, particularly because of its Hollywood-related subject matter. Stan and James are big stars right now, and a miniseries on this level could see them courting awards buzz. Of course, it’s too soon to say for sure how Pam & Tommy will turn out, but it sounds like an intriguing project for both James and Stan.
