Hawkeye: Jeremy Renner Teases First Look At Clint Barton’s Return

In his latest social media post, Jeremy Renner is potentially teasing his return as Clint Barton in Hawkeye. Targeted for a 2021 release date on Disney+, the show will focus solely on the Avengers’ marksman’s adventures, which will also see the debut of Kate Bishop as his contemporary. Given that time frame, there’s a chance that the show is already filming.

Hawkeye first made his appearance in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor from 2011, but he didn’t properly debut until the year after in The Avengers. From there, Marvel Studios gradually revealed bits and pieces about the character through ensemble projects since the hero doesn’t have his own set of movies unlike Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. Despite that, his story will finally be front and center through the Disney+ series that was officially confirmed during Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel from 2019. As confirmed by longtime producer Trinh Tran, Hawkeye will do a dive deep into Clint Barton’s backstory.

Renner hypes up the project through social media with his latest featuring an image of his bruised face. This follows up a string of other presumed Hawkeye production updates including a video where he’s getting head cast, potentially for a new costume. Check out his newest update below:

It’s difficult to gauge what’s exactly going on in the image since it appears as if Renner took it away from the set and in his car. That said, given how the actor’s hair is styled, it’s possible that Hawkeye is revisiting the character’s time as Ronin. There was so much hype to him assuming the role of the masterless samurai in Avengers: Endgame after sitting out Avengers: Infinity War, but admittedly, it became a disappointment since the 2019 culminating movie could not devote more time into tackling his run as Ronin. Marvel Studios can rectify that by jumping through timelines and revealing how he became Ronin in the first place. Other than that, the MCU can also reveal more about the character’s history as the film Black Widow finally confirms what happened to Barton and Natasha Romanoff in Budapest.

While production for Hawkeye seems to already be in full swing, Marvel Studios has remained mum on who will play Kate Bishop in the show. The character is confirmed to be involved in the project, but despite a slew of casting news in the last several weeks that included Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, and Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight, there’s still no update about Bishop. In the comics, Bishop is the daughter of a businessman who is engaged in illegal operations. Following getting assaulted at Central Park, she took it upon herself to ensure that she’ll never be vulnerable again; she trained in martial arts and eventually became Hawkeye when Barton was presumed dead. The two co-starred in Matt Fraction and David Aja’s Hawkeye comic book run, which is believed to be one of the primary inspirations for the Hawkeye Disney+ show.
