Emmerdale fails to receive a BAFTA nomination one year after winning best soap

Emmerdale has been snubbed from this year’s nominations for the TV BAFTAs, despite winning the award for best soap in 2020.

The ITV soap has not received one single nomination, and instead Coronation Street, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Casualty will battle it out for the accolade at this year’s ceremony.

BBC’s EastEnders has received a BAFTA TV Awards nomination once again after being snubbed last year – and the moment of Chantelle Atkin’s murder has been nominated for a Must See Moment award.

Ever since the the Best Soap and Continuing Drama category was introduced in 1999, the Walford-based soap has won it nine times, more than any other show.

Elsewhere in the nominations list, Netflix drama The Crown is leading the way along with Steve McQueen’s BBC and Amazon anthology drama Small Axe.

Small Axe’s 15 nominations include recognition for John Boyega and Letitia Wright in the Leading Actor/Actress categories, while the drama will compete for Mini-Series alongside Normal People, I May Destroy You, and Channel 4’s Adult Material.
