Black Lightning Season 4 Promotes Chantal Thuy’s Grace Choi To Series Regular

Black Lightning is upgrading Chantal Thuy to series regular for season 4. One of the DC TV shows to get a huge new status quo last season was the Jefferson Pierce-centric series that had previously been set outside of the main Arrowverse. With Crisis on Infinite Earths, The CW changed its DC franchise forever by merging all the current shows onto one shared Earth, including the Freeland characters.

A lot went down in the third season of the DC series, but fans can now look forward to another big change in the coming season. After having portrayed Grace Choi since Black Lightning season 1, Thuy is being upgraded to series regular for season 4. Revealed by Deadline, showrunner Salim Akil stressed that it was only a matter of time before the fan-favorite would join the main cast.

For the Arrowverse as a whole, Grace is currently one of the few Asian-American superheroes to be represented from the DC Universe. One of the biggest storylines in Black Lightning is Grace’s romance with Anissa Pierce a.k.a. Thunder, which has become a big moment for the LGBTQ+ representation in superhero media.

With her new status, fans can now expect to see more for Grace in Black Lightning’s coming season. This is the latest cast shakeup since Damon Gupton’s Bill Henderson was killed off at the end of season 3. The CW has scheduled the new season of Black Lightning to premiere on Monday, February 8, at 9/8c in 2021.
