Love Island’s Liberty Poole has entered the villa with a broken heart after being devastated by a love cheat ex-boyfriend.
A best friend of the 21-year-old waitress from Birmingham has explained how the ITV2 reality romance show contestant was blindsided when she discovered her boyfriend had been cheating on her behind her back.
Paige Skinner has known Liberty since she was 11-years-old and has been there for her through the highs and lows of their teenage years and beyond.
She has now lifted the lid on Liberty’s troubled romantic life and says the blonde – who has been coupled with hunky engineer Luke Cornish on Love Island – was devastated when her last relationship came to a bitter end.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Paige said: “Lib has had a rocky love life. Her relationship with her ex was very on-off for about two years.
“He cheated on her last September and that was when it ended.
“She was heartbroken. I think she found out because the other girl told her. He wasn’t having a full-on affair but he made a mistake and that was enough for Lib. Lib has never really felt loved and that is what she’s looking for on the show.”
Paige has been avidly watching the current season of Love Island after it kicked off last week following a two year absence.
She is thrilled to see her friend growing close to Jake, and believes the pair could scoop the £50,000 prize by becoming the winners of the current series.
Indeed, Liberty does seem to stand a strong chance of winning Love Island alongside Jake.
When Shannon Singh became the first contestant to be booted from the show – after just 48 hours in the villa – she predicted that the duo would be the ones to beat over the coming weeks.
She said in a post-eviction interview: “I think the ones that can stand the test of time are Jake and Liberty.
“I think Aaron and Sharon could have a little spark, I don’t really know yet. The rest of them, I think it’s going to change.
“I don’t think it’s going to be Faye and Brad as a couple until the end. I think people are going to come in and their heads are going to be turned.”
Shannon’s predictions have thus far proven accurate – as Faye and Brad did indeed split at the second coupling event of the season.
Faye chose to couple with newcomer Liam Reardon – leaving Brad at risk of being the second contestant to be dumped from the island alongside Chuggs Wallis.
Viewers were left with a cliffhanger on Friday night as newcomer Rachel Finni, from London, stands to seal the boys’ fate by picking one to couple up with – while the other will be sent packing.
But Saturday night’s episode was a highlights show – with Rachel’s decision yet to be unvieled.
Love Island continues on ITV2 and via the ITV Hub tonight at 9pm
