Warrior Renewed For Season 3, Moving to HBO Max | Screen Rant

Warrior season 3 is officially happening after HBO Max renewed the martial arts series. The first season of Warrior premiered in 2019 and introduced viewers to an action-packed story set in the 19th century. The series is based on writings from martial arts legend, Bruce Lee, and follows Andrew Koji’s Ah Sahm as he moves to San Francisco. Warrior‘s first two seasons follow Sahm’s involvement in the Tong Wars and debuted on Cinemax.

The initial rollout of Warrior allowed the show to build a strong following, but its future was in question after season two. Cinemax canceled all of its original programming at the start of 2020 due to declining subscriber numbers on the service. However, the series created by Jonathan Tropper found a bigger audience in 2020 once it became available on HBO Max. Warrior‘s popularity on the new streaming service left the show’s new fans wondering if it will continue. After months of waiting and plenty of doubt, Warrior has officially been renewed.

HBO Max officially announced the renewal of Warrior for season 3 in a new press release. No release date has been confirmed at this time. It is expected that Warrior season 3 will be ten episodes long, but that was not confirmed in the official announcement either. HBO Max CCO Casey Bloys praised past seasons of Warrior for its “dynamic action and relevant storytelling” in the press release. Executive producer, Shannon Lee, who is also Bruce Lee’s granddaughter, said the following about HBO Max’s decision to continue Warrior‘s story:

Justin [Lin], Jonathan, and I were thrilled when Warrior was put on HBO platforms to be discovered by a whole new legion of fans. Now we are excited and grateful for the opportunity to do another season, and we applaud HBO Max for understanding the importance of telling this story and for continuing to support this level of representation in our industry. I just know that my father is grinning right now to see this show he dreamed of so long ago continuing to beat the odds.  We have every intention of delivering the same high level of meaningful storytelling and Gung Fu action in season 3!

Warrior season 3 will once again star Andrew Koji as the martial expert, Ah Sahm. Based on the end of season 2, Sahm’s sister and leader of the Long Zii Tong group, Mai Ling (Dianne Doan), should continue to play a prominent role in the series. It is expected that other main cast members like Mortal Kombat’s Joe Taslim, Kieran Bew, Jason Tobin, Celine Buckens, Olivia Cheng, Dean Jagger, and Langley Kirkwood will be included as well.

Unfortunately, there is no word on when production will begin and bring the cast and crew back together after a slightly extended break. It isn’t clear if the scripts for Warrior season 3 have yet to be written, are partially written, or are completely finished. Based on the season 2 cliffhanger ending, it appears Tropper, Lee, and Lin all have a strong idea of where the story will go next. Bruce Lee’s writings will continue to serve as inspiration for the next chapter of Warrior, and now fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing it will continue.
