ITV viewers bored by new drama Too Close and fume it was a ‘waste of an hour’

Viewers tuning into new ITV drama Too Close on Monday evening were left unimpressed as the first episode came to a close.

The three-part series stars Emily Watson as Dr. Emma Robertson, a forensic psychiatrist who is assigned to work with Connie Mortensen (Denise Gough) – a woman accused of a heinous crime but who claims she cannot remember a thing.

During the first episode of the thriller, the plot hinted at Dr Robertson losing a child, and Connie getting romantically involved with her female neighbour.

But despite the plot twists and intriguing flashbacks, the first instalment wasn’t exactly enough to leave viewers hooked.

Taking to Twitter, some moaned that it was 60 minutes of their life that they’ll never get back.

“Well that was a waste of an hour #TooClose,” one person posted, while another tweeted: “I know they’re building it up ‘n that, but FFS, this is slowwwww… #TooClose.”

A third viewer added: “Well that was an hour (or 32 minutes when you remove the adverts) I’m not gong to get back #TooClose (sic).”

A fourth person claimed: “It peaked in the first 5 minutes #TooClose,” while a fifth added: “Struggling to stick with Too Close. I’m bored. #tooclose.”

However, other viewers tuning in were undecided and hadn’t switched off completely just yet.

“Hhhmmm that was random… not sure if it’s really good or really cr*p #TooClose,” one said.

Another tweeted: “#TooClose it’s engaging and I’m curious to watch more… don’t know what to expect though.”

The official synopsis for Too Close reads: “Dr Robertson is not easily shocked. She’s worked with her fair share of high security patients. However, when she’s sent to assess Connie for trial the two women become dangerously close.

“Connie has a searing insight into Emma’s deepest insecurities and starts to brutally exploit them. Their sessions become a complex psychological game with confusing undercurrents.

“Emma tries to understand Connie and her complicated relationship with her beautiful best friend, Ness Jones, which seems to have made her snap. But as Emma tries to uncover the truth and learn what triggered Connie’s despicable behaviour, it seems that her attempts to see justice done may destroy her instead.”
