Hasbro has released an all-new Star Wars animatronic toy, the Galactic Snackin’ Grogu, the latest take on the adorable creature from The Mandalorian often referred to affectionately as Baby Yoda. While Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) was originally hired by the Client (Werner Herzog) on behalf of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) to capture Grogu, the Mandalorian bounty hunter experienced a sudden change of heart and decided to rescue him from Imperial captivity and take refuge along the fringes of the galaxy.
In typical Star Wars tradition, the Disney+ series The Mandalorian has been a wellspring of merchandising opportunities, mostly thanks to the mysterious foundling named Grogu, also known as the Child. While there have been a few other Baby Yoda toys in recent years, including an animatronic one released last year, Star Wars and Hasbro are always looking to improve on previous models. Last year’s animatronic edition featured sounds and motorized sequences that activated by touching the top of Grogu’s head.
Now, Hasbro has released the newest animatronic iteration of the beloved Mandalorian character, the Galactic Snackin’ Grogu, and it might be the best one to date. Like previous models, the Galactic Snackin’ Grogu’s features include adorable sounds and animated motions, but this animatronic toy comes with a plethora of interactive accessories. Just simply place one of the accessories in Grogu’s hand and he will react accordingly or put one of the accessories to his mouth, such as the included blue macaron cookie or tentacle soup, and it will activate “yummy or yucky” sound effects. Perhaps one of the most exciting features of this new animatronic toy is its force activation. As fans of The Mandalorian know, Grogu is force-sensitive. Patting the toy’s head three times will activate a two-handed Force move inspired by scenes from season 2 of the show. The Galactic Snackin’ Grogu includes additional features such as a moving head, eyes, ears, and arms that reach out when he is picked up and held.
Considering the toy’s release date will be this fall, Hasbro is obviously gearing up for holiday shopping for 2021. However, since last year’s animatronic Baby Yoda was such a huge holiday hit, and this year’s toy is clearly an upgrade, it will be more and more difficult to find it in stock as the holidays draw near. The Galactic Snackin’ Grogu inspired by The Mandalorian is available now for preorder at $79.99 from most major retailers, including Hasbro Pulse, Amazon, Walmart, shopDisney, and Target.
