WandaVision‘s Paul Bettany has some funny advice to first time dads. Bettany plays Vision in WandaVision, the hit Marvel series that is currently the most popular TV show in the world. Vision became a dad in episode three, “Now In Color,” when Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) gave birth to twin boys, who they named Billy and Tommy.
There’s no doubt from the second the boys are born that Vision adores them like a typical doting dad. However, Billy and Tommy’s birth in WandaVision seemed to provide the spark Vision needed to start questioning his reality in Westview. He begins to wonder how Wanda gave birth so quickly, why the twins are aging the way they are, and why there were no other children in Westview until he confronted Wanda. Vision continues to demonstrate free will, a rarity in the town, when he actually escapes Westview and almost dies, begging the S.W.O.R.D. agents to help the people trapped inside. It’s clear Vision can’t exist outside of the Hex. It remains to be seen if Vision will be willing to sacrifice himself to save the citizens of Westview and lose the chance to be with Wanda, Billy, and Tommy in the process.
In an interview with Marvel.com, Bettany reacts to Vision becoming a father in WandaVision, offering some funny words of wisdom of his own for first time dads. Bettany himself is a father of two and relays this advice:
Oh, yeah, my advice for new dads is this. And it’s for the first year, your partner is always right about absolutely everything. Just accept it.
Bettany’s advice is amusingly ironic, considering Vision has done everything but listen to his partner on WandaVision. Viewers haven’t seen Wanda and Vision’s reunion after he tried to leave Westview, but it seems likely it won’t be a happy one. It’s interesting the one person Wanda appears to be doing all of this for is the one person, or Synthezoid, who is actively trying to figure out the mystery of Westview.
Vision certainly seemed more absorbed by his investigations in episode six, “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!” than watching Billy and Tommy. However, that doesn’t make him a bad dad. Vision is acting out of concern for the residents who have cried out for help when given the chance, from Norm (Asif Ali) in episode five, “On a Very Special Episode…,” to Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) in episode six. Vision may not remember he’s an Avenger during WandaVision, but he certainly is acting for the greater good over his own desires.
It’s possible Vision will choose to sacrifice himself and the chance to continue being a father by the time WandaVision ends. Hopefully, Vision will at least get a few more fatherly experiences before the series concludes. There’s not much time left on WandaVision, but if there’s anyone who can get to the bottom of the Westview mystery, it’s dad and hero of the year, the Vision himself.
