WandaVision’s Randall Park Thinks Jimmy Woo Has Gotten Better At His Job

Disney+’s WandaVision recently saw the return of fan-favorite FBI agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park), who, according to Park, is getting better at his job. Park was first introduced to the MCU in Ant-Man And The Wasp, where he played Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) handler. Although Agent Woo was not the main antagonist of the movie, his job is to monitor Scott’s house arrest after he and other superheroes wreaked havoc in Captain America: Civil War, meaning Woo is another hurdle for Scott, Hope (Evangeline Lilly), and Dr. Pym (Michael Douglas) to work around. That said, there was clearly no real animosity between him and Scott. In fact, when Scott finished his house arrest, there was even a bit about the two of them getting dinner together.

Now audiences get to see Park reprise his role as Agent Woo for WandaVision, and fans are elated. After stumbling upon the strange town of Westview to check up on someone in witness protection, Woo ends up working alongside SWORD agent Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Dr. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) to try and figure out what is happening inside the strange cul-de-sac. The trio is already splintering from the rest as they clash with SWORD Director Tyler Hayward on how to approach Wanda moving forward. While Hayward believes Wanda is acting as a criminal and should be treated as such, Agent Rambeau, Dr. Lewis, and Agent Woo are much more sympathetic to her situation and the grief she is feeling.

While Agent Woo has mastered card tricks, Park told TVLine that his character has advanced in other ways, specifically with his career. Park’s full comment can be read below:

“I think he’s gotten better at his job. He’s gotten more confident. I think he’s held on to a lot of things that make him Jimmy. He’s still sincere and earnest and maybe a little bit vulnerable at times, and he really wants to connect to people, and he loves magic. Those things stuck. But as far as his job is concerned, he’s definitely risen through the ranks, and obviously, he’s on this big case, [so] he’s grown.”

Based on this analysis, it is clear that Park puts a lot of thought into his performance and tries to really understand the characters he plays, which is perhaps why Woo is so popular. Park’s ability to play a sincere and vulnerable person also tracks with Park as an actor who, before joining the MCU, was best known for playing Louis Huang on ABC’s Fresh Off The Boat. In the family sitcom, which ended last year on its 6th season, Louis is a caring and ambitious father who works hard to dispel damaging Asian stereotypes and teach his boys how to navigate life in America. Louis’ moments of vulnerability were well-balanced with humor, and it appears that Park is doing the same thing for Agent Woo in WandaVision.

It is also nice to learn that Woo is advancing in his career because, hopefully, that means fans will only see more of him in the MCU. Just like Scott in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame, Woo is clearly a fan of the superheroes that he encounters, making it both funny and rewarding to see him working alongside them. Furthermore, this character development could lead into an Agents of ATLAS spinoff series, a project that Park already said he would be interested in pursuing. For now, Woo’s future in the MCU still remains to be seen, so fans will just have to keep tuning in to WandaVision to see what happens next.
