Gogglebox stars’ celebrity connections – from Nigel Farage to Chuckle brothers

Gogglebox has made household names out of people just sat on their sofa watching the telly.

The Channel 4 show has propelled the likes of Scarlett Moffatt and Jenny and Lee into stardom.

But some members of the cast already had links to the glamorous showbiz world before they were first seen on our screens.

From comedy legend uncles to a supermodel distant cousin, a powerful political friend and even a celebrity love triangle, there are some very intriguing relationships.

And some of these Gogglebox stars might actually be on the way to becoming better well known than the A-listers they are linked to.

Here is a look at some Gogglebox connections to the rich and famous.

Naomi Campbell

That’s right, Naomi Campbell is related to a former Gogglebox favourite.

The supermodel is the cousin of Sandi Bogle, who appeared on the first eight series of Gogglebox.

This amazing secret was exposed when Sandi went on Celebrity Big Brother back in August 2017 during a task.

The celebrities had to guess which of their fellow contestants a statement belonged to – and they correctly chose Sandi.

After getting gunged as part of the challenge, Sanid wiped away the yellow gloop and confessed: “Naomi is my cousin, her mother is related to my mother, so yeah, family.”

Stunned Celebrity Big Brother viewers couldn’t believe what they were hearing.

“Sandi Bogle is the cousin of Naomi Campbell???? I am absolutely floored,” tweeted one viewer.

Another added: “F*** off Sandi from gogglebox is Naomi Campbell’s cousin? What a world we live in”

To make the family connection even weirder, Naomi went on to appear on a celebrity version of Gogglebox with Noel Gallagher and Kate Moss.

Nigel Farage

Gogglebox legends Steph and Dom Parker formed a close bond with Nigel Farage.

Steph and Dom’s hotel was in South Thanet, the Kent constituency where Farage stood in the 2015 general election, so they met up for a bizarre one-off show.

The posh couple were well known for their love of a tipple while sat on the sofa, so it comes as no surprise they got on well with the politician who is often see with a pint in hand.

The former UKIP leader had been warned about the Parkers’ reputation for boozing before he rocked up and replied: “Don’t take me on.”

Things didn’t go strictly to plan as Nigel spilled champagne on his trousers and had to wear a pair of Dom’s ripped jeans.

Rather than politics, they were more interested in quizzing Farage about the break-up of his first marriage, the state of his personal finances and and the testicle he lost due to cancer.

However, while they did hit it off, it didn’t change the Parkers’ political stance.

“Don’t expect me to vote UKIP!” smiled Dom cheerily as he waved his guest goodbye.

The Chuckle Brothers

The Chuckle Brothers aren’t the only famous members of their family.

The much-loved comedy duo are related to Blackpool duo Pete and Sophie Sandiford.

Paul Chuckle sent the internet into meltdown back when he shared a snap of himself sat in between the Sandifords.

It confirmed that Pete and Sophie are the great niece and nephew of Paul and his late brother Barry Chuckle, whose real surname is Elliott.

“This day 2018 with my great niece and nephew @PeteandSophie #Gogglebox,” he captioned the post.

Paul also posted a pic with his wife Sue alongside Pete and Sophie as they enjoyed lunch out together.

And their fans seems to think that comedy runs in their blood.

One of Paul’s followers replied: “Can so see Barry in Pete. Now I know where he gets his comic side from. May Barry’s legend live on in Pete.”

When Barry sadly died in 2018 following a battle with cancer, Sophie shared a picture of the four of them on a night out at a club.

Paying tribute on social media she wrote: “A truly lovely and funny man to be around. You filled millions of childhoods with laughter and entertainment including mine and Peters.

“You will be sadly missed by many. Rest in peace Uncle Barry. Lots of love from me, to you.”

While George Gilbey was a popular character with Gogglebox fans, he was a relative unknown in the showbiz world when he entered the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2014.

George Gilbey first shot to fame in series 2 and quickly became firm favourites with viewers alongside his mum Linda and step dad Pete McGarry.

But the Essex-based clan didn’t last for very long as they were axed by Gogglebox bosses because it “wouldn’t work” once he had been in the famous bungalow.

Despite being one of the least famous people in the CBB house that year, George somehow managed to charm two celebs.

George actually became a bit of a lothario and got embroiled in an awkward love triangle.

His attention was initially on Stephanie Pratt, with George claiming he was “in love” with The Hills star to fellow housemates after they shared a kiss.

However, once Stephanie was evicted he very quickly very quickly onto B*Witched singer Edele Lynch

That same night they had a cheeky snog outside before kissing in bed together.

George finished in fourth place, then had to face the wrath of Stephanie when he left the house.

“I’m obviously a very bad judge of character. Edele’s my best friend and so is George,” said Stephanie on Bit On The Side.

“You [Edele] and George were my best friends in the house, that was the worst betrayal.”

George and Edele went on holiday to a caravan park when they wee outside the house, but unsurprisingly their romance fizzled out.

The Essex lad and his family did finally returned to Gogglebox in 2016 after a three series absence, but George has made less regular appearances than Linda and Pete.
