Mandalorian Season 2 Finale Is Dedicated To Original Boba Fett Actor

The Mandalorian has retroactively added a tribute to Jeremy Bulloch, the actor who originally played Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Bulloch passed away on December 17, 2020 at the age of 75, sparking a massive outpouring of love and mourning from his former costars and Star Wars fans around the world. The Mandalorian season 2 has given Boba Fett the biggest role he’s ever had on screen, and it’s only right to pay homage to the man who originated the iconic character.

While easily one of the most recognizable and beloved characters in all of Star Wars lore, Boba Fett wasn’t necessarily written with such grand plans in mind. His role in the original trilogy was relatively small, consisting of just a few lines and battles, and culminating in a relatively unceremonious end when Fett appears to die in the Sarlacc pit (though he’s since managed to escape). Even with relatively minor material, Jeremy Bulloch brought a powerful presence and sense of enigma to the role. His imposing physical performance quickly cemented Boba Fett in the Star Wars hall of fame.

Now, Disney and Lucasfilm have added an homage to Bulloch in The Mandalorian’s season 2 finale. At the end of the episode’s credits, just before the post-credits scene showing Boba Fett’s return to Tatooine, a tribute can be seen dedicating the episode “In Memory of Jeremy Bulloch.” Given the major resurgence Fett has seen on the show, and the incredible impact Bulloch made on the universe of Star Wars, it’s a nice addition and a due show of respect for a true legend of the franchise. Since the end of the original trilogy, a couple different actors have brought their own contributions to the Boba Fett character. Daniel Logan portrayed a young Boba in Attack of the Clones and voiced the character in The Clone Wars. Temuera Morrison is currently playing Boba in The Mandalorian, having returned after playing the bounty hunter’s clone father Jango Fett in the prequels.

Disney’s current plans mean Morrison will be playing Boba Fett for a while longer. The end of The Mandalorian season 2 announced The Book of Boba Fett, a new standalone series coming to Disney+ in December. Ming-Na Wen will costar as Fennec Shand, and the series will be led by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez. While fans wait for The Book of Boba Fett to arrive, the added tribute to Jeremy Bulloch in The Mandalorian is a nice way to pay homage to the man who played the original character.
