SYFY has revealed its full schedule for an upcoming Twilight Zone marathon that takes place this New Year’s Eve and runs into New Year’s Day. The famed fantasy-horror TV series is one of the most acclaimed TV programs of all time, with a substantial fanbase that remains firmly loyal to this day.
Kicking off at the tail end of 1959 with the haunting episode “Where Is Everybody?“, The Twilight Zone quickly found its stride. Creator Rod Sterling later became known for a variety of sci-fi favorites, including Night Gallery and a co-writing credit on the Oscar-nominated Planet of the Apes, but for many, it was The Twilight Zone where Sterling’s talents truly shined. The series ran for just under five years – a relatively short lifespan for a hit show today, yet it still managed to become deeply entrenched in sci-fi and horror storytelling. Today the entire series can be viewed in the best quality possible and is available in multiple formats. It’s still fun, however, to catch the odd episode on broadcast TV when the opportunity strikes.
With 2021 now just around the corner, SYFY is determined to give fans of The Twilight Zone an opportunity to end a difficult year with something enjoyable. SYFY will be airing a Twilight Zone marathon, which begins on Thursday, December 31st, and comes to an end on the evening of January 1st, 2021. In total, eighty-five episodes of the classic series will air, and everything kicks off at 6am ET with Where is Everybody? There’s certainly no shortage of entertainment on its way for Twilight Zone fans, and the marathon also offers a great chance for those who’ve never checked out the series to do so with some classic Twilight Zone episodes. Recent years have seen the series return, under the creative control of executive producer (and horror maestro) Jordan Peele. But so far, the reboot has largely failed to reach the same heights as its predecessor.
Regardless of whether or not Peele’s series can end up on equal footing with the likes of Sterling’s The Twilight Zone remains to be seen. For now, however, fans of classic sci-fi and horror will surely be in their element when SYFY brings the series back in the final hours of 2020.
