WandaVision: Paul Bettany Thinks Marvel Should Hire Fan Theory Creators

WandaVision star Paul Bettany thinks the show’s fan theory creators should be hired by Marvel. The English actor plays the character Vision on the series, reprising his role from the Avengers movies. Although Vision saw his demise at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, he made his return in WandaVision, and now Bettany hopes Vision will have a future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe even beyond the show. Bettany started out with Marvel in 2008 by contributing the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. in Iron Man.

Ever since WandaVision‘s release back in January of this year, the fan theories have been in overdrive. This is no surprise when it comes to the MCU and especially when it comes to a rollercoaster of a show like WandaVision. There has been an incredibly wide range of theories that have surfaced since the show’s release. The theories so far have revolved around subjects like Wanda Maximoff’s parents, the circumstances behind Vision’s resurrection, and WandaVision possibly giving Monica Rambeau her Spectrum powers, just to name a few. While many fan theories have since been debunked, there are still many that have been supported as the series has played out each week.

Bettany is well-aware of these theories. He spoke in an interview with Marvel.com about WandaVision and reveals he loves reading fans’ theories about what will happen in the show. He thinks Marvel ought to hire these fans as some of the theories have been so accurate thus far. Bettany also mentioned he quite enjoys the frustration viewers experience waiting for new episodes to drop:

I’m loving it. I’m loving it being disseminated to the fans. And I love how frustrated they are of not being able to see it all in one fix. I love reading their theories of what might happen. And some of them are incredibly accurate, actually. I keep thinking, ‘Marvel should give that person a job.’

It’s been a whole lot of fun watching them go through this. I mean, I know they’ve been waiting a long time. So, have we. It’s really special to watch it on the platform without my name across the middle of it [on early screeners]. So yeah, it’s been really fun.

Bettany goes on in the interview to explain how he went from a smaller part as the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S to having a key role in the MCU’s WandaVision today. He explains the J.A.R.V.I.S. role was actually a favor to Iron Man director Jon Favreau and then jokes he has just been slowly “wheedling” his way into Marvel. Bettany also mentions he was surprised when he read on social media he has been involved with Marvel spanning two different decades.

Bettany may be on to something with his suggestion fans should be working for Marvel. Fan theories can be endlessly entertaining to dive into before the plot has fully played out. The in-depth theories that come out each week show fans are intensely immersed in the WandaVision world and would perhaps be well-suited for Marvel employment. It is true fan theories are often accurate, but even when they are later debunked, they can have people wishing the story had gone the way they predicted. Bettany previously expressed the success of Marvel movies comes from the makers themselves being genuine fans of the characters. For this reason, his opinion the fans behind theories should be working for Marvel is not surprising to hear and shows an appreciation for those dissecting WandaVision at a high level.
