Vampire Academy Show In The Works From Vampire Diaries Creator

Peacock has ordered a straight-to-series adaptation of the young-adult, paranormal romance series, Vampire Academy from The Vampire Diaries creator, Julie Plec. The six-book series written by Richelle Mead gained worldwide recognition since the first book was published in 2007 and was adapted into a film starring Zoey Deutch in 2014. The series follows Rose Hathaway, a human/vampire hybrid, as she learns to be a guardian for her best friend, Lissa Dragomir, a princess of the moroi, the mortal, peaceful vampires.

Deadline reports that The Vampire Diaries creator, Julia Plec, is set to write and executive produce the ten-episode series of Vampire Academy for Peacock alongside showrunner, Marguerite MacIntyre. The series comes from Universal Television, where Plec is under an overall deal. Fans of Plec shouldn’t be surprised at her involvement in the series, given that an adaptation of the book phenomenon is something she’s long waited to do. Read what Plec said about the upcoming project below:

When I signed my new deal with Universal Television, they asked what project I had always been dying to make and my immediate answer was Vampire Academy.

A premiere date has not been set for the live-action drama series at this point, and little has been revealed about plot details for the adaptation. However, fans of the vampire genre can expect a sexy drama with romance and supernatural occurrences that test a friendship already burdened by class difference. This also is not the first project Plec has worked on with MacIntyre, who has produced and written for The Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals as well as Legacies.

Plec has already proven her prowess in the vampire world, and even in the more specific world of vampires at boarding school. Her experience in the genre leaves high expectations for another binge-able vampire series, suggesting that perhaps her focus on the stories of undead characters will live on in the form of Vampire Academy.
