The Mandalorian‘s third episode of season 2, “The Heiress” once more includes some stunning artwork over the credits. The follow-up to the controversial second episode of Disney+’s flagship Star Wars, which featured Baby Yoda’s divisive eating habits, was another change of pace, adding more action, some gunslinging battles, and lots of Star Wars animation links.
After the ice spiders and X-Wings of “The Passenger” the third episode saw Din Djarin and Baby Yoda following the trail of more Mandalorians once more, with the Frog Lady’s husband pointing Mando to the Quarren fishing vessel. It may not have been the most direct pay-off to the Frog Man knowing where to find more of his kind, but the rescue by Bo-Katan and her fellow “new Mandalorians” got to the right point all the same. And the reward for the patience of fans who watched last episode’s glorified escort mission was a great episode focused significantly more on Mandalorian lore and history.
After the slowed-down pace of “The Passenger”, episode 3 brought more action, the return of the Empire (once more turned into a slapstick outfit with a jarringly menacing edge), and actual progress on Mando’s journey to find the Jedi. And as ever, the concept art over the credits offers a further look at some of the episode’s best moments. Here’s all 1o concept art pieces featured at the end of The Mandalorian season 2, episode 3, “The Heiress.”
The planet may have looked like Mon Calamari and the residents might have been what you’d expect from Mon Calamari, but that was actually Trask.
Season two promised the reappearance of more Mandalorians and episode 3 delivered with the arrival of Bo-Katan, Koska Reeves, and Axe Woves, played by Katee Sackhoff, WWE star Sasha Banks and Simon Kassianides.
This one doesn’t appear to correlate to a scene in the episode as it appears to show the Razor Crest landing at sea on Trask. The episode played off the moment more comically with an apparently “safe” landing preceding a pratfall for the entire ship.
This episode, Baby Yoda saw some karma for eating Frog Lady’s eggs as he was attacked by his own lunch. Again, the concept art shows a variant with decidedly less comical notes.
More beautiful worldbuilding from the moon, clearly drawing influence from North Atlantic fishing locations.
“The Heiress” saw the return of Stormtroopers to The Mandalorian, which must be the easiest concept art to draw for Star Wars artists by now.
Once more, Star Wars manages to blend the otherworldly with the almost Earthly.

Another reminder, as if it were needed, that The Mandalorian and Star Wars in general love Lovecraftian nightmare monsters. This aquatic Sarlacc-type creature even got to eat Baby Yoda, albeit briefly, with another Mandalorian bursting out of a creature’s belly.
Again, another look at the impressively designed dock on Trask.
Quite why the Empire are on Trask is unclear, but it gives Bo-Katan, Mando, and the others a chance to attack the Byzantine freighter captained by Titus Welliver.
Could this be the episode’s true Heiress? Probably not, but it did give fans a pay-off to Baby Yoda’s egg eating shenanigans in the last episode of The Mandalorian and an immediate redemption.
