Star Wars: The Bad Batch May 4th Release Date Revealed

Star Wars: The Bad Batch will premiere on Disney+ on May 4th. The new animated series is the latest in the Star Wars franchise, following the titular squad of genetically altered clone troopers in the interim between Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. The Bad Batch is part of an extensive docket of planned Star Wars content on Disney+, which includes The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, an Ahsoka Tano solo show, and season 3 of The Mandalorian.

Clone Force 99, known colloquially as the Bad Batch, was first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 as an elite Republic commando squad. The new show will follow Hunter, Echo, Wrecker, Crosshair, and Tech in the wake of the Clone Wars’ end. Avoiding the mind control of Order 66 – presumably due to their unique genetic mutations – the Bad Batch becomes a roaming mercenary team, taking odd jobs across the Star Wars galaxy.

Disney has officially announced that The Bad Batch will premiere on Disney+ on May 4th, with the second episode following soon after on May 7th. The May 4th special premiere date was chosen to correspond with “Star Wars Day,” which takes place on May 4th annually due to the pun of “May the fourth be with you.” Past animated Star Wars shows have been highly praised, and it should be interesting to see what new stories await when The Bad Batch begins.

Though few details have been revealed for the story of The Bad Batch, the series will at least partially deal with galactic politics in the early days of the Empire. Past characters like Ahsoka, Darth Vader, Captain Rex, or Kanan Jarrus could all appear, though the focus will like stay primarily on short-term, action-oriented plotlines. The Mandalorian’s Fennec Shand is confirmed to return, with actress Ming-Na Wen reprising her role for the animated series.

Early looks at The Bad Batch indicate a younger target audience, more akin to Rebels and the early days of The Clone Wars. However, with Dave Filoni leading the project, there’s still plenty of reason for all Star Wars fans to get excited. Since Fennec will feature in the show, and since the Bad Batch themselves will be working as mercenaries, it’s possible that season 1 could set up some threads for The Book of Boba Fett. Fans will get to judge the new series for themselves when Star Wars: The Bad Batch premieres on Disney+ on May 4th.
