Love Island fans won’t have to wait much longer to get their bronzed bod fix as the smash show gets ready to air at the end of this month.

While famed for its hookups and cheeky bikinis, the dating programme has also delivered some seriously dramatic moments – some of which have clocked up thousands of complaints to the telly watchdog Ofcom.

From Casa Amor to claims of coercive and abusive behaviour, Love Island has served up plenty of talking points over the years.

With over 300 complaints, the post-Casa Amor fallout in 2019 was the sixth most controversial moment on the ITV show.

The Islanders were utterly gobsmacked when dancer Curtis Pritchard confessed his doubts about the future of his relationship with Amy Hart, leaving Curmy fans devastated.

Unaware that Curtis’ head had been turned by other girls – including eventual girlfriend Maura Higgins – Amy was distraught.

As the dancer tried to pursue other relationships in Casa Amor, the former air stewardess was in tears, leaving fans concerned over her welfare.

She eventually walked out of the villa rather than sit around watching Curtis and Maura fall in love.

The most recent series of Winter Love Island saw a few spicy scenes, but it was the headlines game that really made a splash.

The headline, which reported that Finn’s head had been turned in Casa Amor, caused concern for Paige as he vowed he stayed faithful to her. Fans argued that the show had mislead its contestants.

With 544 complaints out of 1,668 for the series, this was the most controversial moment of that run.

Another moment that caused several complaints happened before the show even began as images emerged of contestant Ollie Williams posing with dead animals.

He quit the series three days in claiming he was still in love with his ex.

Georgia Steel and Jack Fowler’s kiss – June 2018

Fourth on the list with 655 complaints was Georgia Steel and Jack Fowler’s kiss, prompting concern for islander Laura Anderson.

While the kiss was hotly contested on the show, it was actually newcomer Idris Virgo lying that Jack had made a move on Georgia that upset fans.

Expressing concern for Laura after suffering another knock-back, the situation went on for a number of days before finally being cleared up by new Islander Kieran Nicholls.

Blimey, this was awkward. Gaining over 700 complaints from fans was Maura’s unwanted advances towards boxer Tommy Fury.

Sitting on top of him, Maura attempted to go in for a kiss, only for the younger brother of Tyson Fury to turn away.

Fans responded that the scene made them feel uncomfortable, with many going as far as to say it was sexual harassment.

Maura quickly turned her affections towards Curtis, while Tommy stuck to his original decision to couple up with now-girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague.

Joe Garratt’s behaviour towards Lucie Donlan – June 2019

Sparking more than 500 complaints to Ofcom in 2019 was Joe and Lucie’s relationship, notably when he told her she was spending too much time with Tommy Fury.

The moment, which even prompted Women’s Aid to speak out about the ‘controlling behaviour’ witnessed on screen, triggered over 500 complaints by itself, with more complaints also made for Lucie’s welfare.

The number one moment that saw fans erupt with fury was in series four when Dani was left distraught at seeing Jack’s ex Ellie had entered Casa Amor and was living with him for the next few days.

With over 4,000 complaints made about the show in July 2018, 2,525 of them were made specifically in response to this distressing moment.

Gorgeous Dani has since gone on to have baby boy Santiago with her partner Sammy Kimmence.
