Law & Order SVU Images: First Look At Christopher Meloni’s Stabler Return

The first images of Elliot Stabler’s return in the Law & Order: SVU and Organized Crime crossover have been revealed. Dick Wolf’s iconic procedural television franchise will grow even more next week with the addition of Law & Order: Organized Crime, a new series led by a very familiar face. Christopher Meloni’s Detective Stabler will head up the newest team in the Law & Order world, returning to the franchise for the first time since SVU season 12. His reprise has been in the works since last year, but it was unfortunately delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

For those first 12 seasons of Law & Order: SVU, Stabler’s partnership with Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) was a highlight of the show, as their relationship seemed to transcend traditional labels. However, both Benson and fans were stunned when Stabler left abruptly following Meloni’s real life pay dispute. His exit didn’t allow for much closure, which is why there’s a great deal of anticipation surrounding his reunion with Benson and the rest of the SVU squad. It will all begin with a 2-hour crossover event on Thursday, April 1.

Ahead of next week’s double episodes, NBC has unveiled several new images for Stabler’s return. In addition to revealing peeks at the man of the hour and Benson (though sadly not together), the new pictures also reveal looks at McDermott and Danielle Moné Truitt’s Law & Order: Organized Crime characters. Check them out down below.

Stabler will return to Law & Order: SVU in search of help when his family is threatened. The episode, appropriately titled “Return of the Prodigal Son,” will see Stabler work with his old team to track down the person responsible. Law & Order: Organized Crime will see him taking down New York City’s most powerful crime syndicates. It’s already guaranteed that he will appear in additional SVU episodes throughout the season; Meloni even shared some recent photos from set, hinting Stabler will once again work with Benson and Fen (Ice-T) on another case.

Stabler’s Law & Order return has been in the works for a while now, and that it is only about a week away is particularly exciting. Many are curious to see what Stabler’s been up to since he left, and hopefully these next few episodes will provide some much needed answers. So far, NBC has kept Stabler and Benson’s actual reunion shrouded in mystery, so it still remains to be seen how the two will feel about coming face to face once more. The above images can help tide fans over until the SVU/Organized Crime crossover next week.
