Kate Garraway’s appearance on ITV’s Piers Morgan’s Life Stories left viewers emotional throughout, especially when her kids paid tribute to their mum.
The mum-of-two, 54, spoke candidly of husband Derek Draper’s ongoing health battle after he contracted Covid-19 last year.
He spent 13 months in hospital before returning home, but he still requires round-the-clock care.
In Piers’ final interview as host of the show before Kate takes over, he asked her children, Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12, how proud they are of their mum.
Billy replied: “Very proud, I’m really proud of her.”
Kate quickly repaid the compliment, saying: “Those two are incredible – and they are incredible with their dad.”
Darcey was then asked by the host about the past 20 months and said: “She’s amazing obviously. She looks after us, she always encourages us, it’s really good. We’re really proud of her.”

Kate Garraway and Derek Draper’s love story leaves Life Stories viewers in tears
During the discussion Kate revealed that Derek is in a “terrible state” after inflammation “passed through his brain”.
She told Piers that despite her husband returning home, he is still unable to fully communicate and has issues with mobility.
She said: “It does feel as though I walked through a fiery furnace or fell down a rabbit hole. The world went dark and still looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, really.”

“Derek is thought to be the worst affected living Covid patient in the United Kingdom,” Piers pointed out. “He spent 13 months in hospital – the longest stay of anyone who survived the disease. What has Covid done to your husband?”
“It’s devastated him,” Kate said. “From the top of his head to the tip of his toe. His digestive system, his liver, his kidneys, his heart, his nervous system. We’re pretty sure that the inflammation did pass through the brain.
“He still can’t communicate, he still has issues with mobility. Fundamentally, he’s in a terrible state. Look, he’s alive, Piers.”
