Jesse Plemons Joins Elizabeth Olsen In HBO Max Series Love & Death

Jesse Plemons has signed on to star alongside Elizabeth Olsen in HBO Max’s Love and Death series. The real-life drama was inspired by Jim Atkinson and Joe Bob Briggs’ book Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs, as well as as collection of Texas Monthly articles. Love and Death reunited acclaimed Big Little Lies collaborators David E. Kelley, Nicole Kidman, and Per Saari. Lesli Linka Glatter will executive produce alongside them and direct the episodes. Kelley will also write the installments.

It was previously confirmed that Olsen would follow-up her acclaimed WandaVision turn by playing real-life axe-murderer, Candy Montgomery. According to Variety, Plemons will play Allan Gore — the husband of Montgomery’s victim and with whom she was having an affair. Plemons has been best known for the role of Todd Alquist in Breaking Bad and the El Camino movie spinoff. In recent years, the actor has also enjoyed roles in Netflix’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things and the Oscar-nominated Judas and the Black Messiah.

The official logline for the series reads: The show follows two church-going couples, enjoying small-town family life in Texas (or, at least they do until somebody picks up an axe). The series is based on the true story of Texas housewife Candy Montgomery, who murdered her friend from church, Betty Gore, with an axe in 1980. HBO Max’s Love and Death has yet to receive an official release date or announce any additional casting.
