“Injustice (2021) Blu-ray Review” is a review of the film “Injustice: Gods Among Us.” The movie was released in theaters in 2013, and it is now available on Blu-ray.

Verdict

Summary

Injustice is the second free-for-all apocalyptic DC Animated film in a year (the first was Justice League Dark: Apokolips War), and it’s shocking and R-rated for fans of DC stories and heroes who used to be fairly PG-rated but have resorted to harder edged themes and graphic violence to get their stories across.

Plot:

Superman goes berserk when the Joker murders Lois Lane and their unborn child, causing the Justice League to break apart.

Review:

When the unexpected occurs, Clark Kent and Lois Lane are expecting their first child. Joker decides to pull the ultimate joke on Batman: he kidnaps Lois and implants a bomb in her breast, but that’s only the frosting on the cake: to distract the Justice League, Joker detonates a nuclear bomb in Metropolis, killing 11 million people. Superman is helpless to prevent Lois’ death (she dies in his arms), and the nuclear assault is catastrophic for the whole globe. Superman does not do what Batman would do (which is the sick butt of Joker’s joke): he rushes up to Joker and punches his heart out, instantly killing him. This is just the beginning of Superman’s transformation from an innocent hero to a dictatorial, ruthless tyrant over the planet. Superman and his allies (Wonder Woman and Cyborg, for example) go on a spree against any and all threats to the Earth, removing every missile, nuclear weapon, and war machine from the planet and declaring world peace FOR ALL. Superman is opposed by Batman, Green Arrow, Catwoman, and Plastic Man (among others), who must be extremely innovative and clandestine in order to topple the unstoppable and more deranged Superman, who, in one scene, massacres an entire warehouse of unarmed ravers who call him out on his wickedness (and because they wear Joker attire). The struggle between the two sides is going to be brutal, and Batman’s crew will have to not only cross universes to summon different Supermans to fight him, but they’ll also have to find a means to humble him and restore his sanity.

You know you’re in for something new when The Flash gets killed off in his first and only scene. Injustice is a tough pill to take for a brand that has spanned numerous storylines, live-action episodes, movies, and videogames, but happily it is a standalone chapter and can be experienced independently of everything that has gone before it. Matt Peters directed the film.

The 4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray / Digital combination box, which includes two additional cartoons and “Adventures in Storytelling – Injustice: Crisis and Conflict,” was published in mid-October.
