Netflix romantic comedy TV series Ginny and Georgia has been officially renewed for season 2. Season 1 premiered on Netflix on February 24, 2021. Antonia Gentry and Brianne Howey starred as daughter and mother duo Ginny and Georgia, respectively, while Diesel La Torraca, Jennifer Robertson, Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Scott Porter, and Raymond Alblack rounded out the cast.
Variety confirms that Netflix has given the green light for Ginny and Georgia season 2. The renewal comes less than two months from the show’s premiere date. Like season 1, season 2 will have 10 hour-long episodes. It appears that the majority of the cast will be returning for the show’s sophomore season. Executive producer and showrunner Debra J. Fisher is ecstatic to see the show move forward and grateful for her leading ladies.
“We are so appreciative of the incredible response and love you all have shown Ginny & Georgia. We’re especially grateful to Brianne and Toni, who set the highest bar every step of the way. We can’t wait to return to Wellsbury for season 2.”
Ginny and Georgia season 1 was met by mixed reactions from fans. Statistically, it’s hard to argue the show wasn’t a success. On Ginny and Georgia’s premiere week, the show’s Nielsen ratings surpassed WandaVision. Within the show’s first month on the platform, it brought in 52 million users and made the Netflix Top 10 list in 87 different countries. However, the show received less impressive reviews from critics and only slightly above-average scores of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes and 62% on Metacritic with a user score of 1.5. Additionally, it faced backlash from fans over the way the show handled race issues and an insensitive Taylor Swift joke. It’ll be intriguing to see how season 2 is perceived.
In Ginny and Georgia, Angsty and awkward fifteen-year-old Ginny Miller often feels more mature than her thirty-year-old mother, the irresistible and dynamic Georgia Miller. After years on the run, Georgia desperately wants to put down roots in picturesque New England and give her family something they’ve never had: a normal life. But it’s not all carpool and Kombucha as Georgia’s past threatens her and her family’s new way of life and Georgia will do anything to protect her family.
