Falcon & Winter Soldier Director Promises Thrilling, Emotional Finale

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale will be action-packed and emotional, says director Kari Skogland. Marvel Studios’ second Disney+ series is down to its last episode following a five-week journey. While people involved with the production can’t reveal anything plot-specific, expect the upcoming outing to deliver on all storytelling fronts.

In its penultimate episode titled “Truth,” The Falcon and the Winter Soldier sets up Sam’s eventual superhero persona as the next Captain America. After giving up the shield in the premiere, seeing the government-appointed Star-Spangled Avenger in John Walker murder a Flag-Smashers member made him realize that to fully honor the legacy that Steve Rogers’ left, he must embrace the responsibility of the mantle. Still, he needed Isaiah Bradley’s thoughts on the matter, having been the first Black Captain America whose story was intentionally erased just because he was treated horribly by the U.S. government. Even as Sam decides to wield the iconic shield, he is expected to be confronted by Walker, who still wants to be Captain America despite his crime.

As The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s story culminates in its much-anticipated finale, Skogland teases that the people who have been tuning in on the show will not be disappointed, as it seems like they save their best work on the show for its last hurrah. Speaking with Toronto Sun, she reveals that the upcoming outing will have the best action sequences in the series, not to mention some emotional moments. Skogland stated:

I can tell you that if you think the action sequences have been good, this week’s is the best we’ve done so far. You’re going to laugh and you’re going to cry. It packs a punch.

Throughout The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s run, it featured some of the most exhilarating and brutal action set pieces in the MCU. The show opened with Sam’s aerial mission where the hero was able to fully show off his flying skills. Episode 5, meanwhile, featured the bloody fight between Sam and Bucky and Walker on the heels of the latter’s killing of the Flag-Smashers member, Latvia. Given those two standout sequences, it’s curious what Marvel Studios has up its sleeves for the series finale.

As with most MCU projects, there will also be emotional weight into the upcoming closing of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Given what happened in the show’s last five episodes, there are several possibilities that can deliver on this front. That includes Bucky potentially coming clean to Yori Nakajima about the truth regarding his son’s death at the hands of the Winter Soldier. Meanwhile, Sam officially becoming Captain America (which packs an emotional punch in itself) might pave the way for Bradley’s story to be finally known.
