Emmerdale hunk Max Parker, who plays Luke Posner, has confirmed his relationship with on-screen brother Kris Mochrie and shared his coming out story in his own words.
Max, 28, said speculation about his relationship with 31-year-old Kris, who plays Lee Posner, after they went public on social media meant he came out to his grandparents before he felt he was ready, as he wanted to be the first to tell them.
But, he told Attitude, they told him they accepted him and were happy he is happy, much to his relief.
Max recalled feeling “shame” as a child realising he was gay in 1990s Manchester where it was cool to like “girls and football” and his dad grilled him on images he found on the computer that Max had been looking at.
“I was so embarrassed,” he laughed.
“I remember I searched online how to delete all of the [computer] history so no one could find it, and I deleted like, the main drive and broke the computer.”
Max added: “One of the main reasons why it took me quite a while to come out is because my parents are so accepting and they’ve always said to me, ‘You know, if you’re gay you can tell us’, and I’m really stubborn and I don’t want to be proven ‘wrong’, so I was trying to prove to myself ‘No no, they’re wrong, I’m not gay’.”
He identified as bisexual and entered into a seven-year relationship with a woman, but eventually he realised he needed to pursue his truth, and felt he would be holding her back otherwise.
Max then told his parents he identified as gay after he began dating a man, and his parents were over the moon for him, making their relationship even closer for it.
But on the fateful day Kris introduced himself on set, Max instantly thought he was handsome, but it was Kris’ last day on set.
“It was later I thought ‘I’ve never done Tinder so I’ll have a go’, so I went on Tinder and I saw him pop up, and I was like ‘OK this is a sign’ – so I made the first move by sending a message on Instagram,” he said.
The rest was history, and the genetically-blessed couple have moved in together and Max says he is excited for what the future holds.
