Corrie’s tragic Oliver dies in heart-wrenching scenes as Leanne says goodbye

Coronation Street lines up devastating scenes next week, as the ITV soap bids a heartbreaking goodbye to little Oliver Battersby.

The youngster, three, was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease earlier this year, with his worried parents Leanne Battersby and Steve McDonald soon learning his condition was incurable, and life limiting.

After a series of seizures, Oliver was left on a ventilator in hospital, unable to breathe for himself.

His parents continued to fight for his survival, after the hospital informed them there was nothing more they could do.

Steve begs Leanne to let their son go with dignity, not wanting him to suffer anymore and she finally agrees to drop the appeal.

In scenes to air on Friday 27, the heartbreaking time comes for Oliver’s parents to say goodbye.

The pair stay by his side and sing to him until he takes his final breath, and passes away.

His step-parents Tracy and Nick are in the corridor, and the silence of the singing stopping tells them that Oliver has died.

After returning home, a distraught Leanne curls up on Oliver’s bed and sobs as she struggles to accept her little boy is gone.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
