Bagpuss set to air on BBC iPlayer for first time as 70s kids’ show makes return

Classic 1970s children’s show Bagpuss is to stream on BBC iPlayer for the first time.

From tomorrow you will be able to watch all 13 episodes, although the box set of the saggy, old cloth cat’s escapades will only be available for a month.

Created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin, who also made Ivor the Engine, the Clangers and Noggin the Nog, the stop-frame animation programme was a huge favourite with children and families when it launched in 1974.

BBC Children’s and Education director Patricia Hidalgo said: “It doesn’t matter whether you grew up with Bagpuss or it’s your first time visiting Emily’s shop, Bagpuss is one for all the family to enjoy.

“It’s great to be bringing this timeless series to iPlayer.”

The BBC last showed it in 1986.
