Loose Women: Nadia Sawalha opens up about her miscarriage

Nadia Sawalha kept her miscarried foetus in the freezer after a heartbreaking baby loss.

The Loose Women star was speaking about her own experiences with miscarriage on the show today, as the panel discussed Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez’s devastating loss of their child.

Nadia has been open about her miscarriages in the past, explaining in the past how she “wish she’d known the phrase ‘rainbow baby’ at the time,” as she shared: “The rainbow of it, the beauty after the darkness and the storm.”

Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women today, she said: “And the loss was terrible and my last miscarriage before Kiki was very difficult and I actually had a labour at home with Mark and there was a foetus and it was like, what do I do with this.

“It was almost like, can I say this, is it a baby. But I was really lucky because I shared with my family and I didn’t know what to do.”

She added: “This might be shocking for some people, but I know a lot of people have reached out to me in the past and said they’ve done the same. Because I didn’t know what to do, I put it in the freezer because – what am I supposed to do?

“This is my baby, even though it’s so tiny. We had a burial for it and planted a tree and that was really meaningful for me.”

Nadia feels lucky to have her family and friends’ support throughout the devastating loss of her child.

“From the minute I knew I was pregnant, I was planning,” she said as she spoke about being open with her family and friends about her loss, “A really important thing not to say to somebody is, ‘oh how far were you?’ as if it’s like whether it was a week or months, there’s more meaning to it, because the meaning is there the moment you’re joyful you’re pregnant. So the fact I’d shared it with family and friends the second I found out I was pregnant means I could also share the loss with them.”

Nadia has suffered three miscarriages and she admitted previously she was thankful to get so much support.

“If we actually think about it, what is the reason that we don’t tell people? A lot of the time it is superstition, if we tell people something will happen,” she shared on a previous show.

“It’s really difficult to have that conversation, I got enormous support after I had my second one and my third one which was the hardest of all because it was much later on.”
