This series of The Great British Bake Off has managed to go ahead in the middle of a global pandemic thanks to the contestants moving away from their families and bubbling up together.
We’ve so far had ice-cream meltdowns, dodgy brownies and a single handshake from Paul Hollywood – and while the series isn’t over yet, bosses are already looking to recruit the next batch of amateur bakers for next year’s show.
So how exactly do you find yourself nervously explaining to judges Paul and Prue Leith how your Showstopper will withstand gravity, while hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas try to eat your ingredients?
Luckily, the application process is now open, and it’s super-easy to apply. Here’s how.
Who is eligible for The Great British Bake Off?
To be in with a shot at winning the lucrative glass cake stand, you must be at least 16 years of age on January 1 2021 and a UK resident – including of the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
You’ve also got to be very good at baking, but never have been employed as a baker, cook or chef – and you can’t earn your main source of income from cooking professionally or commercially. Oh, and anyone who has recently worked for Channel 4 or Love Productions – or has a friend or close relative who does – is sadly banned from applying.
Bizarrely, you also can’t have any NVQ, BTEC or any equivalent professional qualification in baking, cooking, food production, food preparation or catering, unless you studied for it more than 10 years ago.
You must also be free for every single filming day required, which is usually between April and August, and make yourself available for extra filming for shows like An Extra Slice. Filming days will be confirmed to successful applicants.
Have a read of all the rules here.
When does the application close?
You’ve got just under a month to get your application in – the deadline is 11.59pm on Sunday December 6 2020.
How to apply for Bake Off 2021?
There’s a website dedicated to talking you through the application process. You can either submit it online, or request a form be posted to you by emailing [email protected] or calling 0207 067 4837 with your full name, address (including postcode) and telephone number.
Remember the deadline is December 6, so bear that in mind if you’re applying by post.
Good luck!
