A brand new interview with Timothy Olyphant is sparking rumors that he might be gearing up to reprise his role as Cobb Vanth in Book of Boba Fett. The character was introduced in The Mandalorian season 2 as the Marshal of Mos Pelgo in Tatooine. He was sporting Boba Fett’s iconic Star Wars armor which Din Djarin received at the end of the same episode.
Lucasfilm finally laid speculations about Boba Fett’s final fate after falling into the Sarlacc pit in Return of the Jedi to rest at the start of The Mandalorian season 2, where he was revealed to be quietly living on Tatooine. Eventually, he returned in later episodes as he forged an unlikely alliance with Din in an effort to reclaim his father’s armor that was initially with Vanth. After Grogu was safely rescued from Moff Gideon and taken away for training by Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett and his trusted assistant, Fennec Shand, returned to Tatooine and took over Jabba the Hutt’s old palace from Bib Fortuna. This sets up the upcoming The Mandalorian spin-off Book of Boba Fett, which is set to release in December 2021.
Not much has been revealed about what the new show will be other than it will feature Boba Fett and Fennec. However, a new public appearance by Olyphant has fans convinced that he will reprise his role as the Marshal of Mos Pelgo in Book of Boba Fett as he’s sporting the same look as his Star Wars character. It’s uncertain what’s in the future for Cobb Vanth past his The Mandalorian appearance, and Lucasfilm has been mum about additional casting for Book of Boba Fett. That said, it makes a lot of sense that Olyphant returns to Star Wars via the new streaming show. For starters, the events of the show will be expectedly set on Tatooine where he already is. If Boba Fett knew that Din got Jango Fett’s armor after the death of the krayt dragon, chances are that he was well-aware that Cobb Vanth had it for the longest time. The spinoff can explain why he didn’t retrieve it much earlier from the Marshal. Finally, considering the overwhelmingly positive reception to Cobb Vanth, it would be a waste if Star Wars doesn’t bring him back, and Book of Boba Fett would be the perfect opportunity to do that.
Recently, executive producer, Dave Filoni, did confirm that he and Jon Favreau are busy working on the first The Mandalorian offshoot. Given the timeline, it’s indeed possible that Olyphant’s look is in preparation for his return in Book of Boba Fett. In any case, as the show’s release date creeps up, expect official information about the project soon.
