The fan excitement for Netflix’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed series keeps building, with a stunning piece of art from two talented Instagram artists. In the wake of the live-action show’s announcement, fans of the video game series have been showing their dedication with some incredible creations of their own. The show is the first in a “TV universe” of AC content on Netflix.
Since Netflix first announced the deal with Ubisoft to produce an Assassin’s Creed series, fans have speculated about what the show could look like. There’s certainly a wealth of content to pick from, with so many iconic characters, locations, and time periods having featured throughout different games in the series. While the 2016 Michael Fassbender-led film featured an all-new assassin and setting, many fans hope to see some favorite characters from the games appear in the Netflix version. Altair, Ezio, and Bayek are chief among those.
In the new poster from _imagine_impossible_ and ultraraw26 (real names Yadvender Singh Rana and Karanbir Singh according to their Instagram bios), all three iconic assassin characters are brought together in a gorgeous, stylized piece. A figure – one-half Ezio, the other half Bayek – holds one of the mystical “Pieces of Eden” artifacts that drive the games’ story. The spirit of Altair, star of the very first Assassin’s Creed game, stands behind them. The poster shows Michael Fassbender as Ezio, Aldis Hodge as Bayek, and Tom Wlaschiha as Altair.
The history of video game adaptations is a rocky one, and striking the right balance between including content from the games and creating new material is tricky. The structure of Assassin’s Creed makes it ripe for any number of new, original stories, which could be a great way to bring the essence of the franchise into a new medium. On the other hand, many fans will want to see the characters, moments, and locales they’ve come to love from the games.
While Netflix and Ubisoft are still in the early stages of pre-production, they’d be wise to take heed of fans’ input like Yadvender and Karanbir. Ezio, in particular, has remained immensely popular, even though he hasn’t been featured directly in the games for many years. The inclusion of Bayek also shows how much positive work Assassin’s Creed: Origins did to rejuvenate the series. Regardless of how the Assassin’s Creed show turns out, the fan poster is a gorgeous glimpse at what could be.
