Kate Garraway has confirmed she will be back at work next week, despite her husband Derek Draper finally being back home from hospital.
Kate usually hosts Good Morning Britain towards the end of the week, but the presenting schedule has been somewhat disrupted since Piers Morgan suddenly quit last month.
Kate, along with Ben Shephard, Ranvir Singh, and Adil Ray have all been taking turns to host the ITV breakfast show along with Susanna Reid – and it seems Kate is keen to keep doing so.
Chatting to Ben and Ranvir on Friday’s show, Kate ended the interview by saying: “I’ll see you next week,” which implies she will be back in the studio.
The 53-year-old TV star initially took some time off when Derek was first admitted to hospital in March 2020 after he contracted coronavirus.
Over a year later and he has now finally been allowed to come home and was reunited with Kate and their two children, Darcey and Billy, on Thursday.
Understandably, it was very emotional reunion and Kate fought back tears as she recalled setting the dinner table and putting out four plates instead of three.
The family home has been adjusted to due to the amount of care that Derek needs and the living room is now his bedroom.
“There’s a huge amount of kit that comes with him,” Kate explained. “I think the next few days I’ll be putting more things in plastic boxes!”
Derek, 53, needs 24 hour care and will undergo various therapies including speech and language therapy, but Kate admitted: “It’s going to be very slow I’m afraid.
“He can’t really move, we do need a lot of help,” she added, before confirming that she hadn’t really slept much during Derek’s first night home.
*Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
