Kate Garraway has thanked a fan for defending her against a vile troll who branded the GMB host “shameful” over her heartbreaking documentary this evening.
The GMB host, 53, shared what her life had been like for the past year since her world was turned upside down when husband Derek Draper was rushed to hospital in March 2020 with coronavirus.
Derek, who has been described as having the worst Covid infection than any living patient, was put into a medically induced coma but regained minimal consciousness in July and uttered his first word “pain” in October.
For the first time, Kate shared their touching FaceTime conversations, which ranged from hopeful to devastating, with Derek at one point telling her he “can’t go on” any longer.
Kate was inundated with support from her co-stars, including Ben Shephard who said that he was “so proud” of her.
He wrote: “So proud of my friend @kategarraway she continues to surprise, delight, occasionally infuriate but always inspire me. Thinking of Kate, her family and anyone who is battling Covid or has lost someone close to them to the virus. #FindingDerek.”
But one follower nastily wrote beneath: “Absolutely shameful that kate would film this! It’s more Kate The journalist rather than Kate Garraway the wife!”
The Twitter was slammed in response, with one writing: “If you can be anything #BeKind I hope Derek’s children can’t read your silly negativity.”
Kate had clearly seen the original nasty comment and liked the latter response, but chose not to reply directly.
Former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan also sent Kate a message of support, calling the documentary “heartbreaking”.
Sharing an image of Nelson Mandela and the quote “It always seems impossible until it’s done”, Piers tweeted: “Love you @kategarraway.”
