Christopher Dean reveals he fell over at least 200 times when he started skating

Rink legend Christopher Dean was always a cool natural… at every sport except ice skating.

The Dancing on Ice head judge got his first pair of skates aged 10 and his early efforts involved a lot of falling over.

Christopher, 62, said: “At school I was a natural and I used to enjoy all kinds of sport, football, gymnastics, and so that feeling of movement was always in me. I got a pair of ice skates for Christmas.

“I had never seen an ice rink before and when I got on I fell over a minimum of 200 times.”

Speaking on The Adam Buxton Podcast, rink partner Jayne Torvill, 63, added: “I remembered when Chris was young. He used to fly round at high speed and fall over a lot.”

The pair went on to score full points in the 1984 Winter Olympics and win British, European and world titles.

Last night, rapper Lady Leshurr was booted off Dancing On Ice in the semis after a skate-off with Olympian Colin Jackson. Judges Ashley Banjo and John Barrowman wanted to save her but Jayne backed Colin – with Christopher adding his deciding vote.
