WandaVision‘s Randall Park, who plays FBI Agent Jimmy Woo, says he screamed too much while preparing for his big fight scene in episode 6. WandaVision debuted in January 2021 as Disney+’s first Marvel Cinematic Universe series. Also the first new MCU project in over a year, WandaVision has inspired theories, fan art, and other reactions as viewers celebrate the show and try to guess what’s coming next. It also features one of Marvel’s most-talked about twists partway through its run, when Wanda and Vision’s neighbor Agatha reveals herself as the comics character Agatha Harkness.
WandaVision has also brought in familiar characters from elsewhere in the MCU. Monica Rambeau has played a major role after being introduced as a child in Captain Marvel. Fan-favorites Darcy Lewis and Jimmy have been a big part of WandaVision‘s success as well, as they help Monica and Wanda from the outside. Though Jimmy’s received the most attention for finally perfecting his card trick from Ant-Man and the Wasp, he got another big moment in episode 6 when he joined Monica and Darcy in fighting off some S.W.O.R.D. agents.
Appearing on Conan, Park discussed prepping for the scene with one of Marvel’s fight coordinators. The actor said he first received the note “You gotta make a fist, no slapping,” before being pulled aside for another amusing suggestion. Said Park:
He pulled me aside because he thought I’d be embarrassed, but he was like, “Why are you screaming so much?” I was like, “‘Cause I’m scared, you know.” He was like, “Why are you scared?” And I’m like, “‘Cause I’m in a fight.” He was like, “Well, this is Marvel. There’s no screaming during the fight. You can grunt.” I was like, “It’s really tough for me not to scream when I’m in the moment.” But they worked with us for the next two weeks every day. They got it to a really good place, and I think it turned out pretty badass.
Elsewhere in the interview, Park noted he hasn’t participated in too many fight scenes in his career so far. This rings true of his role in Ant-Man and the Wasp as well; in that movie he mainly provided comedic relief opposite Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang. There’s been some of that in WandaVision, too, especially in his interactions with Kat Dennings’ Darcy. However, the series has also shown off Jimmy’s more serious side as the stakes have gotten higher. Through it all, Park has proven himself to be an important part of the MCU, with his episode 6 fight scene fitting right in with WandaVision‘s other high-action moments.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Jimmy in the MCU. Many have called for a WandaVision spinoff series starring Park and Dennings, though it’s unclear if that will come to fruition. With several more MCU shows on the way at Disney+, it’s easy to imagine the FBI Agent popping by another series, especially since so many have enjoyed his role in WandaVision. However, the MCU has a lot of characters to service, so it may be awhile before those on WandaVision , including Jimmy, show up again.
