Disney+’s first live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe TV show Wandavision has kicked off 2021 by getting its own set of emojis on Twitter. The show, featuring Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany’s Vision will debut on the streaming service on January 15, just two weeks from today. The milestone was marked by the release of a number of new posters for the show, revealing more of Scarlet Witch’s new costume. Wandavision is the first of many planned Marvel TV shows, with a number debuting in 2021.
Not only will it be the first piece of MCU content to be released since Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, but it will also represent a departure for the franchise. The series will be a fantasy show with each episode seemingly set in a different sitcom universe, referencing classic shows as well as more modern ones like The Office. The show will also break the fourth wall, similar to the way Deadpool does, making reference to the strangeness of the events taking place, and hinting that it’s all happening inside Wanda’s head. As a result, anticipation for the high-concept show is high.
Disney has responded to that anticipation by not only releasing new posters, but also with new Twitter emojis for the show. Twitter user alias noticed that the emojis have been added as of Friday morning, kicking off 2021 with a surprise for Marvel fans. The emojis appear whenever Twitter users type out specific hashtags, including #WandaVision, #Wanda, #TheVision and #WandaMaximoff. The emojis are cute little versions of each character with the show’s emoji featuring both characters together. You can see the emojis below:
The emojis are cute, and a smart way to build some more anticipation around the show in the final weeks before it starts airing. WandaVision is likely to be a huge hit for Disney+, with the media giant hoping that it will rival The Mandalorian for viewing numbers. For the cast, the show has already been a success, with Olsen saying it’s the Scarlet Witch story she’s always wanted to tell.
Bettany also recently confirmed it has reignited his love for the character of Vision, and made him want to return to the MCU in future, despite being killed off in Avengers: Infinity War. So, with just a couple of weeks to go, it’s clear Disney is ramping up marketing for WandaVision, with potential for more footage to be released and perhaps even one more trailer. But even if there isn’t any further new material, the show’s release is so close that fans are close to finding out exactly what it’s all about very soon.
