The latest set photos from The Boys season 3 tease the in-universe movie Dawn of the Seven, starring some of the show’s most prominent supes. The Amazon adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book series has been a massive hit, having ranked among the top streaming shows for the past couple of years. The Boys takes place within a fictionalized version of the real world where superheroes are treated like everyday celebrities, which has led to corruption and toxicity rising among their ranks. The titular Boys, led by Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher, aim to take supes down, including top superteam the Seven.
One of The Boys‘ biggest strengths lie within its ability to cleverly satirize real life events. Season 2 took on the rise of white supremacy and the role social media plays in that, on top of a variety of other topics. On a more lighthearted note, The Boys has tackled Hollywood’s current obsession with superheroes, finding ways to poke fun at the MCU, the DCEU, and everything in between. This is mainly done through the ways the Seven is marketed, whether it be through advertisements or movies.
The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke shared some new photos of the season 3 set, giving particular focus to the fictional movie Dawn of the Seven. The two posters, which tout the “world premiere” of the project, spotlight Homelander (Antony Starr) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty), both of whom are among the stars of the film. Interestingly enough, Dawn of the Seven is rated PG-13. Kripke further hyped the arrival of the movie, writing, “#TheDawnIsComing.” Check out his post down below.
Dawn of the Seven was teased extensively throughout The Boys season 2, acting as a parody of the DCEU’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In addition to showing some storyboards and key art from the project, a good amount of time was spent on the set, and scenes from the movie were even revealed. Now it looks like The Boys season 3 will actually show the release of Dawn of the Seven, thus furthering the show’s world-building. Though it’s been known there are many movies starring members of the Seven, this is the project that has received the most amount of attention on the show so far. Because of that, it would be interesting to actually follow Dawn of the Seven through its release.
It’s also fun to note that while the title appears to be drawn from the DCEU, the posters for Dawn of the Seven feel like something right out of the MCU’s Avengers franchise. This is just another prime example of how The Boys draws inspiration from our culture surrounding superheroes, and it’ll be fun to see what season 3 mocks next. Surely, there’s more than enough superhero content out there to keep the real world allusions coming for a while.
