The Mandalorian‘s season 2 premiere has received the classic Marvel Comics cover treatment in this new piece of fan art. Disney+’s first live-action Star Wars series premiered just last year and became something of an overnight sensation. Starring Pedro Pascal as the titular bounty hunter Din Djarin, The Mandalorian follows his travels across the galaxy, one of which brings him in contact with the mysterious and powerful Baby Yoda (or, The Child in canon). While others wish to use Baby Yoda for their own purposes, Din takes the tyke into his care and pledges to find him a proper home with his people.
The Mandalorian season 2 began just last Friday, with the first episode, “Chapter 9: The Marshal,” dropping on Disney+. The episode saw Din and Baby Yoda return to Tatooine and venture out to the beleaguered mining town Mos Pelgo. It’s there that Din meets Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), the titular marshal donning some very familiar armor. The two team up to save Mos Pelgo from a vicious creature known as the krayt dragon, thus giving way to some really thrilling visuals.
It’s the krayt dragon battle that’s received special attention in this new piece from artist dvglzv. Din (with Baby Yoda in tow) is shown flying in the air above the krayt dragon as though the scene was in a classic comic book. The retro comic cover look is a fun way to view this scene, particularly because it looks like it could fit in perfectly with the rest of the Star Wars comic world. Check out the picture down below.
Though there has only been one episode so far, The Mandalorian season 2 has been praised for its impressive visuals and classic Western story. Undoubtedly, there will be more surprises ahead, but fans are largely feeling good about the direction the season is going. The Mandalorian‘s premiere also featured the return of a major Star Wars character, setting up some intriguing possibilities going forward. Perhaps future episodes will get their shot at becoming a Marvel Comics cover too.
Much like season 1, The Mandalorian season 2 will roll out weekly, meaning it’s going to take some time before fans get the full picture about where things are headed. Disney+ has so far kept many plot details a secret; it isn’t even clear where Din and Baby Yoda are headed next. All that’s known is that Din is currently in search of other Mandalorians, and that he’ll likely have to find some Jedis to take care of Baby Yoda. Whether the krayt dragon or Cobb Vanth will return remains to be seen, but either way, their story was a solid way to kick off season 2.
The Mandalorian season 2 continues on Friday on Disney+.
