Hollyoaks ‘ Sid Sumner is set to face devastating consequences after a horror drug overdose leaves him with life changing injuries in upcoming scenes.
Troubled teen Sid, who is played by Billy Price, is suffering from extreme depression after his heartbreak, and turns to drugs to try to numb his pain.
But when he takes too much ketamine and loses awareness of his surroundings, he will find his life has changed forever.
He and his friend Juliet Quinn (Niamh Blackshaw) have been involved in a county lines drugs ring that has left them attempting more and more desperate measures to stay on the good side of their boss, Jordan Price (Connor Calland).
They have been dragged younger children into their drug dealing gang as they sell drugs to young students in the local area.
Sid is trying to deal with his unrequited feelings for Juliet, who is rapidly rising up the ranks of the gang.
Bill told Metro: “Sid still is and may always be head over heels for Juliet, although she doesn’t see him in that way. With Juliet climbing the ranks, their involvement within county lines is dug deeper.
“The stakes are higher, and the consequences are dearer.
“Sid always seems to get himself into the worst situations, and can never catch a break, however, as we have seen over the past few months, Sid always sticks up for the people he cares for, although this time, his actions have consequences, which will change his life forever.”
Hollyoaks is working on the storyline with The Children’s Society, and Becky Fedia, Disrupting Exploitation Programme Manager said: “Criminals exploiting children put them at enormous risk, cynically grooming them, controlling them using threats and violence, and exposing them to the dangerous effects of drugs.
“It’s important that Hollyoaks is depicting the stark reality of child exploitation, and the traumatic impact it can have on young lives.
“But there is hope of a brighter future for young people like Sid and Juliet if we all play our part in looking for signs children may be at risk, reporting any concerns, and understanding that they need help as victims of exploitation and are not simply troublemakers.”
* Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
