EastEnders: Jase Dyer comes to blows with Billy Mitchell

EastEnders fans are convinced Phil Mitchell will survive being trapped inside a burning house after dramatic scenes hinted the character might be killed off.

Friday night’s episode saw four Albert Square residents get trapped inside a building as flame left up around the property, leaving the four in a perilous predicament.

Phil Mitchell, Janine Butcher, her daughter Scarlett and Tommy Moon were all caught in the Mitchell household when a fire broke out.

And unluckily for Phil, he seems the most at risk of perishing in the flames as he was seen being knocked out just before the fire started to spread.

But eagle-eyed fans are convinced the soap hard man will survive as they saw him moving before the drums rolled.

Friday night’s episode saw Phil and Shirley Carter clash in an argument about Tina Carter – who was, unknown to the residents, killed earlier in the year.

Shirley hit Phil over the head, knocking him out – but after he had switched the cooker on, with the hob burning hot.

A fire began after Janine threw a cardigan which landed on the hot surface and started to ignite – with the episode ending as the kitchen filled with smoke while Phil lay unconscious on the floor.

But fans noted that Phil, played by 62-year-old Steve McFadden, was moving before the end of the episode.

One viewer wrote on Twitter : “Phil Mitchell moved too much for a dead man. He is definitely NOT dead.”

While others made not of the point that Phil has avoided death multiple times before, with one tweeting: “Phil is immortal, he won’t die” – and another writing: “Phil is virtually indestructible.”

Steve has played Phil for 31 years – first debuting on the BBC soap back in 1990.

The character was famously gunned down on the streets of Walford back in 2001 – sparking an epic ‘Who shot Phil?’ storyline that gripped the nation.

With the shooting airing in March, the culprit was unveiled as Phil’s ex-girlfriend Lisa Shaw, played by Lucy Benjamin.

While fans are convinced that Phil will live to terrorise Albert Square another day in the current house fire storyline, there are fears among fans that Janine, Scarlett or Tommy will perish as the trio are upstairs when the fire starts.

Janine Butcher is also in the house with the raging fire set to be a storyline point of focus in the coming week

Janine, played by Charlie Brooks, returned to EastEnders after a seven year absence earlier this month.

BBC bosses have already teased that Janine will “send shockwaves around Walford” and that she has “enemies to boot around every corner” following her return.

EastEnders continues on BBC One on Monday night at 8pm.
