Captain Sir Tom Moore left viewers in tears as they branded him an “absolute hero” as his Life Stories episode aired as ITV changed their schedule to pay tribute to the late legend.
The WW2 veteran died aged 100 after contracting pneumonia and coronavirus, his daughters confirmed today in a heartbreaking statement.
Hundreds paid tribute to the NHS hero, with the Queen “recognising the inspiration he provided for the whole nation and others across the world”.
Captain Sir Tom raised £33million for NHS charities during the coronavirus pandemic by walking laps of his garden and inspired others to do similar acts of kindness.
Among them was 90-year-old Margaret Payne, who raised £436,000 after walking the equivalent of 731-metre Suilven through her staircase.
To pay tribute tonight, Piers Morgan announced that ITV would be airing Captain Sir Tom’s Life Stories episode, which was filmed last year, and saw him open up about moving in with his grandchildren and meet the love of his life, Pamela.
And viewers fell in love with Captain Sir Tom all over again following the touching interview tinged with his wry humour.
