When the BBC Breakfast team got a morning off for a boozy appearance on Saturday Kitchen, things got rowdy…
Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were accused of being “rude and inappropriate” to host Matt Tebbutt and sparked 700 complaints.
Matt insists he didn’t find their behaviour “malicious” or “offensive” – even if they did ask for a top-up of wine live on air…
“Charlie asked when I could take his order,” laughs Matt.
Naga and Charlie also ribbed the presenter during the February broadcast, prompting outrage.
“It wasn’t in any way offensive,” says Matt. “But you can understand why people get upset. I was genuinely very flattered people were upset on my behalf.”
And of their wine tasting…
“These poor guys have been reading the worst news for over a year. So they wanted to come in, relax and have a nice time and that’s exactly what they did.”
*Matt will appear at The Big Feastival, hosted by Blur’s Alex James, August 27-29.
