Love Island bosses have hit out at the vile trolls who have sent Chloe Burrows a barrage of death threats.
Chloe, 25, was a dramatic late entry in the newest series of the reality dating show and chose to couple up with Aaron Francis on Tuesday night.
The shock selection meant that fellow islander and early fans’ favourite Shannon Singh was sensationally dumped from the show before it had really began.
As a result, some cruel viewers sent disgusting messages and death threats to Chloe’s family, leaving them needing to beg for them to stop.
And now Love Island bosses have stepped in to warn trolls that any abuse of this nature will not be tolerated and police will be informed of any nasty or hurtful comments about the Islanders.
In a statement posted on the show’s official Instagram page, bosses said: “We want Love Island to be a positive experience for all of our cast and their friends and family members.
“Last night’s episode created strong reactions but some viewers’ posts were wholly unacceptable.
“We take these matters extremely seriously and will support cast members and their families in reporting such posts.”
The message concluded: “We would once again urge all of our viewers to think before posting, and remember that our Islanders are people with feelings.”
Love Island’s statement was met with positivity, while former contestant Jordan Adefay commented to say he hoped the show had a better support system in place for this series.
He wrote: “I hope they have a better support system this year. And actually give each one a chance instead of picking favourites just for a better storyline. And also please don’t just dump dumped islanders at the airport not knowing how to deal with all the press.. it was actually terrifying… thank you”
The show’s statement comes of Chloe’s family were forced to speak out in desperation on Thursday after getting an influx of unwanted attention on social media.
Relatives of the marketing executive from Oxfordshire referenced the tragic deaths of three former Love Island stars.
Sophie Gradon was found dead aged 32 in June 2018, while 2017 contestant Mike Thalassitis took his own life at the age of 26 in March 2019.
The show’s host Caroline Flack also died by suicide aged 40 in February 2020.
Chloe’s family said: “Morning everyone, Chloe’s family & friends here.
“We hate to introduce ourselves under such vile circumstances but we’ve had enough after just 3 episodes.
“We all have thick skin but the amount of trolling Chloe has been receiving is absolutely disgusting. This morning we woke up to yet another DM (see next story) encouraging Chloe to kill herself – there have been HUNDREDS.
“Have the deaths of Sophie, Mike, and Caroline taught us nothing?
They continued: “Not only that, but people are flooding her inbox threatening to kill themselves. People… this is a GAME show, there is a cash prize!
“We understand the frustration surrounding @shannonsinghh’s eviction we feel it too! She didn’t deserve to leave so early but Chloe does not deserve to DIE because Shannon had to leave the villa! She will have had no idea of the repercussions of her decisions prior to making it.
“We are not naïve. We know that this post won’t put an end to trolling. All the advice we get is to ‘ignore it’ and ‘block the trolls’ sometimes it’s not that easy. Our hope is that this just reminds some of you #BeKind” x.”
Former contestant Dr Alex had also asked people to remember to be kind as the show kicked off this week.
