Logos appearing on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier merchandise tease the Captain America comics villain Flag-Smasher. The upcoming Disney+ show will reunite Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes following the events of Avengers: Endgame. It will show Sam wrestling with the Captain America mantle, while both he and Bucky feel the ramifications of Steve’s choice to stay back in time. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will feature other Marvel Cinematic Universe characters as well, including Avengers ally Sharon Carter and the villain Baron Helmut Zemo.
Though many aspects of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have been kept tightly under wraps, some details have been teased via merchandise. For example, a set of stickers recently showed Sharon with the word “wanted” over her face, suggesting she’s on the run when meeting up with Sam and Bucky. Meanwhile, what appeared to be a prototype of a Sam Wilson action figure made its way online last month, possibly offering a look at his Captain America suit. Of course, many of the reveals teased by merchandise won’t be confirmed until The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres next year.
Now, logos on products by Zazzle tease Flag-Smasher, a villain from the Captain America comics. TFATWS Brasil posted about the logos, which are featured on cards and luggage tags. They show a slightly different take on the “Flag-Smasher” name, as well as a red globe handprint similar to the mark on the villain’s belt shown in the comics. Check out the logos below:
In the comics, two different characters use the name Flag-Smasher. The first is Karl Morgenthau, a terrorist who is eventually believed to be assassinated. Guy Thierrault then begins using the Flag-Smasher name, though ultimately he’s killed as well. In addition to Captain America, Flag-Smasher battles Punisher, Moon Knight, and Deadpool, among others. The character hasn’t been used in live-action yet, making his potential largely untapped.
Based on the little information available at this time, it’s hard to predict Flag-Smasher’s role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It’s possible the name is merely a callback to the comics and won’t be assigned to a specific villain. However, the Karl Morgenthau version of Flag-Smasher has a connection to John Walker/U.S. Agent, as he once captured the character. John Walker will play a key role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so that could explain Flag-Smasher’s involvement. Hopefully, the villain’s role in the show becomes clearer as it nears release.
