After his heavenly stint as the restless professor Chidi Anagonye on NBC’s The Good Place, William Jackson Harper is now headed to topline season 2 of Lionsgate Television’s HBO Max series Love Life. Launched back in May 2020, Love Life is a rom-com anthology series created by Sam Boyd. Each season of the show follows a new person through all the romances in their life. In season 1, Love Life focused on Anna Kendrick’s Darby Carter as she pursued love. While Kendrick’s breezy performance as Carter was appreciated by critics, they attacked the show for its uninteresting, familiar premise. Despite discouraging reviews, HBO Max renewed Love Life for a second season 2 in June 2020. Now, the Warner Media-backed streamer has also announced the main lead for the upcoming show.
Per TV Line, William Jackson Harper will take over from Anna Kendrick as the new lead on Love Life. While the details about Harper’s role are still largely under wraps, TV Line has confirmed that Harper’s character in the show will be out looking for love once again after breaking up with the woman he thought he would be with till death. In season 2, Harper’s character will also interact with Kendrick’s Darby and a few other season 1 characters who have previously been confirmed to appear “occasionally” in the new show.
Love Life is the perfect opportunity for Harper to break away from his anxious Chidi image and establish himself as a serious lover on-screen. Harper is a promising performer who has entertained fans with his acting chops in several critically acclaimed movies and TV sh0ws. Hopefully, his addition to the Love Life cast will motivate the makers to come up with a story that matches Harper’s exceptional acting caliber.
