A rough and ready gem in the Orson Welles canon. Fantastic use of colour, plus some expectedly fabulous characterisation. Sure, this is the briefest of mini-reviews, but It’s a Welles film, need I say more?
THE GOOD: Does what it says on the tin.
THE BAD: Not his best…but no bad stuff really.
THE UGLY: A Nazi official in the lead role most have been pretty shocking upon first release, only a year after the end of the war. Welles confidence is staggering and unflinching.
